Childhood polyps
Polyps (also called adenoids) are adenoids of the lymphatic tissue (tonsillar tissue) in the laryngeal area (back exit of the nose to the pharynx). Mostly swellings affecting the whole lymphatic tissue of the tonsillar ring and the lymph nodes of the whole neck. It is a symptom for the immune dispute and the learning of the immune system at preschool age.
The lymphatic tissue is an important part of the immune system that is working against pathogenic germ. If the swelling of the adrenoids becomes too strong, the adrenoids are border on natural borders of the skull (skull bone). Because of this it comes to a respiratory obstruction of the nose with symptoms like mucous congestion, snoring, open mouth and nasal vocal sound. By the respiratory obstruction the nutrition is often impaired especially when the palatal tonsils are enlarged, too. This can result in development disorders of body and mind (due to a decreased oxygen supply of the brain). The contiguousness to the auditory tube causes a interrupted air circulation of the tympanum which results in a tympanum withdrawal, later to a liquid accumulation or mucous congestion in the middle ear. The respective children often suffer from moderately severe hearing disorders. This can be compared with a congestion of the auditory canal by means of a finger.
zurück zur Definition...
A climate change of several weeks often helps the patients but sometimes is just not possible. In Southern countries similar clinical pictures occur more rarely there. An adequate prevention by vaccination and proper medical treatment can possibly lower the risk for infections.
